Officially Opening the Floodgates!

SORRY, NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Sorry if these shots have been of low quality as of late.

At the risk of coming off as wishy-washy as of late with the state of these drawings. At the beginning of the year it was stated that I will be stepping back from doing any heavy production of these drawings. At the beginning of the year the official count for these drawings stood at 72. Now that number stands at 85. Plus I have opened the flood gates for future request and commissions. Research & Development

BigCutie Chloe
Doing the research and development side of things it has to be conceded - Well from this artist perspective - That I'm apart of a very niche market. A market that hasn't yet been cornered because I have yet found any major press coverage with regards to BBW art or artist. I'm very aware that I am not the only doing this for I am friends with other reputable artist who specialize in this field among social media.

One would assume that with the Body Positive movement gaining ground over the years, this would trickle down to something big. To date there is very little major media coverage outside of niche blogs and sites like Bustle. The only major coverage I found of any artist doing BBW Pin-Up work comes from the Daily Mail's article of a pin-up calendar which was posted some years back. I've spoken with a few of my compatriots in the field and many have expressed their desire to take their work to the next level. To date however, none of these plans have materialized.

Speaking from experience, one of the downside to being an artist is that many of us are not good at promoting ourselves. I for one am my worst critic - pretty sure many of us have heard that line before - despite the positive feedback I still feel that my work is still not good enough. Maybe it's a lack of setting realistic goals...

To look at things a bit more positively, maybe my contemporaries and I are the pioneers to what may usher in a golden age. Hopefully one that will take us out of the niche market, R. Crumb drawings and the stigma of porn fetishes.

By the way...

It's My Birthday!

I normally don't like to get too personal, but today is something bittersweet for me. I'm getting older and somehow I can't help but think that I have very little to show for it...

I'm still single with a bunch of drawings laying around my humble abode. They are not even prospects in that department. I'm so busy that I haven't really had time to focus in that department. These drawings drive me crazy over it sometimes

Stepping Back to take a Bigger Step.

Queen Bee 2. Work in progress. 2016
To date they are well over 60 drawings of these Voluptuous Vixens to date. This has been a venture I have been engaging in since 2010. So after such time and investment poured into these drawings one must ask, "What now?" Well this is a question that I had put off asking myself until now.

With so many drawings, strangely I still feel that this series is still incomplete. There is so much more I wish to explore. They are so many new ideas I would like to play with. There is so much more I can do. All together it still feels like I'm not ready and I can do better. With that said, I will have to take a step back in order for  that big step can be taken.

Artistically this has been one of the most ambitious endeavors I have ever taken. Outside of illustrating comic books and working on graphic novels, this is a large body of work dealing with one single theme with a single medium. It has to be remembered that all of this started from a suggestion that was interpreted as a joke. So what do I do now?

First, I want these these drawings to reach a much larger market. So I will be dramatically reducing the production of these drawings. Like most artist, I am all but a one man operation so I'm primarily responsible for getting the word out. I have big plans for these drawings and in order to fulfill these ambitions, I will have to take a step back.

Many may be aware of the Voluptuous Vixen's by Kevin Richardson Facebook page which has a solid group of followers, but one has to concede that growing an audience on social networking has it's drawbacks. I like so many, get sucked up in the bubble with the belief that it's the end all of self-promotion. We get way too comfortable with the accolades we already get it and it's easy to forget that there is a much larger world out there. They are other sites as well, Instagram, DeviantArt, Twitter, etc. Same as Facebook, they only represent a tiny microcosm of the market. So I have my work cut out for me...

This isn't calling it quits by a stretch - I'm not turning out the pilot light yet - Don't tell anyone, I'm still working two drawings to date, however completing those drawings aren't really a priority at the moment - While I may keep a Facebook page, bare in mind that this place is still the official home of these drawings. Also, a little word of mouth wouldn't hurt from my current fans on this site and artwork. In effort of getting the word out, I intend to increase posting on this blog so that you can be updated.

Thank you for your time.

Big Things Are-a Comin'

I have been quite busy with other projects to tackle any drawing since my last posting but I assure you that when I get back to this - hopefully within the forthcoming weeks - it will be HUGE!

Since January, the direction of this artwork has taken a direction for the positive. So in truth, this hiatus has been something of a blessing. Hopefully the pic below should be a SMALL indicator of one the few direction these drawings will be going.

2015 Year in Review

2015 Voluptuous Vixens - The BBW Drawings Kevin Richardson
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Normally I don't do this but for some odd reason I feel a bit obligated to do a 2015 Year in Review. The fan base is growing and gaining momentum. In retrospect, 2015 has been a very productive in contrast to years past. Over 10 drawings were produced which has been more since 2010. I look forward to 2016 being a very busy year for I find myself with projects that will regretfully take me away from producing this drawings - but fear not. I'll manage to steal some time in the forthcoming year and give you something.

New Years Eve of 2014 found me calling for a "muse" to draw for this gallery. In 2015 however, that has not come to fruition so I'll extend that call through 2016...hehehe! As we all know it takes patience and as stated before, this year is expected to be a very busy one so patience is key. Thought I should make that through the New Year. Making such a call on my blog is a true "sucka move" but I can live with it.

If you'll allow me to disclose a little secret, I'm working with one. She's not quite the muse however for she lives in another state. She's appeared in a few drawing and is slated for future drawings. But I'm more than willing to make accommodations...

Magic Number Milestone

To date I have completed well over 50 pieces for the Voluptuous Vixens gallery. Some pics are good, some are okay, some are just flat out mediocre. That's how you would judge a body of work. But a quick reflection of the body with plenty of pictures - As a show of force of what this project has become over the years.

From the beginning, I believe it was either 2008 or 2009, I had a sheet of unused Arches paper laying around. Since Arches was a pretty costly investment, I was saving it for "something special" but that "special" moment never came around so I just cut the sheet into smaller pieces. I didn't know what to draw so I just simply whipped out the tracing projector so that I draw something fast. Also note that to that date, it would also be one of the few times I've ever used a tracing projector. For the people who follow these "adult online models" (yes, I detest that term) Carrie - or BBW Carrie - of Carrieland has long been a favorite of mine. During some down time, I drew the above pic and showed it to a friend. He loved it and jokingly said I should do a series of big girl drawings. It never really registered with me at the time for my ambitions were somewhere else.

The below is a little known paper test I've conducted shortly after I drew Carrie on the Arches paper. Mainly to see if there was any difference. Since there was another source photo of the same theme - matter of fact, I was a little conflicted in which one to use. I drew my second choice on regular vellum bristol board. Truth be told as a piece of advice to any other aspiring artist who comes across this blog I will say it now,

Switching Mediums?

It's been awhile and as of late February, there has been no new drawings - Well official drawings to add to the gallery. I have been getting more into painting and occasionally I have been flirting with the idea of making such a transition for Voluptuous Vixens. To date, my decision leans towards a "nay."

Studies have been done with mixed results. The first would be "Bubbles" in which did about a year ago (If you could tell by now, She would be my favorite)

I Need A Muse (New Year's Resolution)

It's just something I want to put out there in the universe and somehow, someway - some lovely lady will heed the call. I need a muse. It sounds cheesy and in the process, makes me sound like I'm being cheap but we all need that inspiration to help keep us going to help us achieve our goals. Well all need someone - someone who'll help us reach that next level.

This is one of the many so-called resolutions for the new year. No point to making long elaborations for if we work hard enough, it'll all find us. With that said, Happy New Year...

I Am Chubby Chaser, Hear Me Roar

Lately, it has come to the realization that the older I get, the less I really care of what my peers think about my preference in women. It hasn't always been this way. They were times when I let the opinions of others get to me. In the end it costed me some potentially meaningful relationships. Though it has been an open secret longer than I have been illustrating these pictures. This is my formal coming out of the closet - Ladies and gentlemen, I am a chubby chaser. It's nothing worth making a huge deal about. I will cope, move forward and live my life the way I want it to be. But let it be known that I have gained the courage and strength to carry on into a much brighter future.

Now that I got that weight off my shoulders...
Yes, I love big bellies, big butts, thick thighs and huge knockers. I love that a woman can keep it real when it comes to her look. I want to fall in love with the attitude that comes with the package. A need a woman who is comfortable in her own skin. A woman willing to get naked - To get naked on command - to get naked without reservation. A woman I can proudly show off to the homies. A girl I can respect and adore.

No frumpy fat chicks with low self-esteem allowed. I demand confidence in my woman because you are a reflection of us. Who we want to be and where we want to go. I want you in my life. No frumpy fat chicks who always dress down for comfort. I want to tell you that you look good in a thong, in sexy lingerie. Put those bloomers/granny panties away.

This would be less dramatic if less attention was paid to some of the boneheaded things the media tends to say about guys of my ilk. Subject to be addressed in a later conversation. The stigma for guys who are attracted to big beautiful women these days is that we are a bunch of emasculated fellows who are willing to settle for less. I assure you, this is far from the truth. We love women with curves but we too have standards. What we are is a segment of the population that accepted that we love busty women and stripped ourselves of the blinders that society attempt to dictate what the ideal woman should be.

Sorry, This wasn't as uplifting as I had hoped it to be.

A Little Bit of an “Expansion”

If you’re just now reading this blog, Welcome. This is a site which showcases the BBW inspired pencil illustrations of Kevin Richardson. The site has been inactive due to the artist moving on to other projects. At the nudging of a particular social networking group, he has decided to continue with more illustrations which will hopefully means this blog will now get (somewhat) regularly updated.

With “expansion” this blog hopes to offer commentary to art and perception to plus sized women. In the end, we don’t know ourselves. Your just invited to come along for the ride.
